Thank You For Donating to the Hamar

When you donate to GTLI, you make a tangible difference in the lives of the Hamar. Your money goes directly to the programs that help them adapt to their changing world.

We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with our website. While we work to fix the problem, please mail your donation checks to:

Which program would you like to support?

$10 buys a shovel and jerry can to enable a family to dig a pit latrine and gather wash water.

$25 buys beading supplies to enable a woman to support her family.

$50 buys school supplies to enable a classroom of women to learn the skills they need to run income generating activities.

$100 sets a Hamar family up as sustainable chicken farmers – with training, coop building supplies, and education in basic business skills.

$500 treats an entire community for intestinal parasites and trachoma, preventable diseases that become life-threatening when left untreated.

$1,000 helps dig a well, bringing clean water to a village.

Your monthly donation goes even further toward helping the Hamar move toward self-reliance.

$10/month sends a woman to school

$20/month houses, feeds and clothes a Hamar orphan

We welcome your help!

Here are some things you can do that will directly help the Hamar:

1. Hold a shikinee party to support Hamar women and girls

Shikinee are the beautiful beaded bracelets and necklaces worn by Hamar men and women - and now they're one of the best ways you can help Hamar women buy food.

Invite friends over to ”have fun and do good.” We'll send you a ”party in a box” - bracelets, necklaces, videos. You and your friends can have fun shopping, knowing that every purchase helps Hamar women feed their families.

Shikinee are “the real deal,” the same bracelets and necklaces worn by the tribe. They're unusual, authentic and fun to wear. They also make lovely presents.  Each one comes with a card describing the woman who made it.

2. Invite your church or civic organization to make a difference.

Does your church, synagogue, Rotary club or other organization support projects overseas? May we send you an “Impact Info Pack” illustrating the difference their support will make?

3. Raise money for your organization by selling Hamar beaded jewelry.

Is your church, school or organization looking for a new way to raise money? Purchase beaded bracelets and necklaces from GTLI, sell them at a mark-up and keep the difference. It's a win/win for your organization and the Hamar!

4. Spread the word

If you're moved by GTLI and the Hamar, tell your friends:

  • Sign up for our e-newsletter and forward it to your friends.
  • Better yet, add them to our mailing list.
  • Hold a Hamar House Party. We'll send you photos, videos and other materials you can share with friends.
  • If you live in WA, OR, MN or FL, invite a GTLI representative to visit your organization.
  • Friend us on Facebook.
  • Subscribe to our blog.
  • Link to www.gtli.us on your own website or blog.
